General tips and tricks to Assignment 2 Be consistent and precise This will involve quite a bit of “data fumbling” Don’t just delete any data that looks suspicious How about reconstructing data? Don’t base conclusions on eye- balling graphs only Be consistent Refer to the literature (as in the assignment + as in the lectures) Real data real analysis decisions Don’t just run a single test and then say “doesn’t work” Use your data (wisely)
4
(continued) Intro: start with a problem or interesting finding, not with data or with “this is assignment 2” Use an explanatory research question (“why?”) not just a descriptive one Use your data as a test case for your hypotheses (don’t use the data as an inspiration for hypotheses) There are many network measures. Carefully explain why you use the one you did No direct copying from lecture slides
5
It can be hard to find significant results. Show an effort! Try subgroups, try to leave out those who did not pay much attention, check for outliers, etc You have lots of variables available: use them! Assumptions of the analyses: check them and show it (don't just say you did) Finally: this is not just a copy-and-paste assignment. Think for yourselves. Do something smart with the data. (continued)

Grading: comparison of originality of arguments, correctness of used methods and answer, relevant references to the literature, level of detail and care-intensity. If you need help, let me know! (email is easiest)
