5 MATH Homework given Monday through Thursday Math games are used for drill and reinforcement Generally two quizzes per chapter and chapter test Timed tests are given for Multiplication facts up to 12 and division facts up to 12

6 READING/LANGUAGE ARTS Literacy tickets and Guided Reading groups Assessments given weekly

9 SPECIALS Fifth Grade Specials: Music Art 2 Days of PE Technology/Science

10 Fifth graders had their second opportunity to join the Mustang Musicians, Midways chorus. Each class has had the opportunity to learn about chorus and get a form to sign up during classes last week. Contact Mrs. Agnello for more information. August 29 was the deadline for fall. New students will be able to sign up again in January.

14 AGENDA USAGE - SIGNING SIGNED AGENDA PLEASE DO NOT SIGN A BLANK AGENDA. YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE SOME TYPE OF HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT. Please remember to have your child read at least 30 minutes each evening.

15 FRIDAY FOLDERS Class newsletter and weekly report. Work to be sent home. School newsletters and important information. Fundraiser information. Please sign and return Friday Folder on Monday.

16 INTERIM REPORTS AND REPORT CARDS INTERIM REPORTS will be sent home every 4 ½ weeks. Students making less than 80% in any subject area will be required to get a parent signature and return the interim to school. REPORT CARDS will be sent home every 9 weeks.

17 GRADES OF S – P – N - U WILL BE GIVEN IN THESE AREAS: *Conduct – all students start at 100 for grade. It falls 2 points for each conduct cut given. Report of conduct goes home each week in Friday Folder. *Specials Classes- they use the same system and let us know if there are any conduct cuts.

18 IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK SEND A NOTE WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES. YOU MAY EMAIL THE NOTE IF YOU WISH.

19 CRCT This spring, all third through eighth grade students will be assessed with the Criterion- Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) mandated by the state. According to GA law, if a third grade student scores below standard on the reading section of this test, the student will be retained in third grade. Likewise, in the event a fifth or eighth grade student scores below standard on the reading and/or math sections of this test, the student will be retained.

20 School Rules 1.I will keep my hands and feet to myself 2.I will respect my school, my classmates, myself, and my materials. 3.I will respect and follow adult directions. 4.I will walk and remain quiet throughout the whole building. 5.I will not disrupt learning at Midway. Rewards: Tickets, Homework Passes, Extra Recess and More! Consequences: Verbal warning, Conduct Cut, time in another teachers room, laps, time off recess, office, parent phone call, letter or conference.
