3 How much to practice? Be reasonable in the amount of practice…and set a goal and a reward for work ethic and quality work. Check their online work…check the score. Ask questions …Teaching it to you is a very powerful strategy.

4 Conquering Multiple Choice Read the whole question carefully; try to decide on the answer before reading the options Read ALL of the answers, then choose the one that most closely matches your answer. When unsure, eliminate answers that are clearly incorrect. If forced to guess, choose the longest, most detailed answer.

5 Suggestions…in Math Numbers and Operations..most heavily weighted…knowing and using basic facts. Measurement…by grade 5 this is 32% Geometry…in grade 4 this is 20%

6 Suggestions…. in reading Grade 3….Literary Comprehension 60% Grade 4 & 5…Literary Comprehension Information & Media Literacy 80% of the test.

7 Suggestions… in Language Arts Grades 3-5 Grammar and Sentence Construction is 60% Research and Writing Process is 40%

8 Testing Dates Wednesday, April 13 - Reading Thursday, April 14 - English / Language Arts Tuesday, April 19 - Math Wednesday, April 20 - Science Thursday, April 21 - Social Studies

9 When the day is almost here…. Talk about the hard work and preparation done both at school and at home. Be positive Reward good effort

10 The night before testing… get plenty of exercise!

11 Have fun ! Do something fun the night before to take your childs mind off the test. See a movie, play a board game, play a sport. Your childs mind and emotions will be more relaxed leading up test time.

12 Get enough sleep Big tests require a lot of energy and stamina to be able to focus for several hours. Make sure your child gets at least 8- 10 hours of sleep the night before testing.

13 Think good thoughts – Science is showing that good feelings can actually help your brain work better. Remember something that makes you feel good – your pet, a big hug from your mom, etc. Hold onto that feeling.

14 Test day! Time to show your tough stuff!!!

15 Eat a hearty breakfast The brain needs a lot of energy to maintain focus on a big test for several hours. Eggs, cereal, whole wheat toast help energize your brain to think more clearly. Good snacks – peanut butter and crackers, cheese and crackers
