Al-Azraq is a unique wetland oasis located in the heart of the Jordanian eastern desert, one of several beautiful nature reserves managed by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. Its attractions include several natural and ancient built pools, a seasonally flooded marshland, and a large mudflat known as Qa'a Al-Azraq. A wide variety of birds stop at the reserve each year for a rest during their arduous migration routes between Asia and Africa. Shaumari Reserve was established in 1975 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature as a Breeding Centre for endangered or locally extinct Wildlife. Today, Shaumari follows Breeding Programs along with a number of other world leading Wildlife Parks and Zoo’s, this relatively small, (22 sq/km) Reserve is a thriving protected environment for some of the most rarest species of animals in the Middle East like: Oryx, Ostriches, Gazelles and Onagers. Established in 1989, Dana Biosphere Reserve is Jordan’s largest nature reserve, covering some 320 km2 of rugged and beautiful landscape along the face of the Great Rift Valley. More than 800 plant species can be found within the reserve, three of which have only ever been recorded in Dana and nowhere else in the world. Their Latin names include the word ‘Dana’ in them. Wadi Rum Protected Area is one of the world’s most outstanding desert landscapes, covering 720 square kilometers of dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan. Its huge mountains and broad sandy wadis are home to several Bedouin tribes and a surprising range of desert wildlife. This wildlife now includes a herd of Arabian Oryx, reintroduced by RSCN in 2002. Wadi Al Moujeb is the lowest nature reserve in the world, located in the mountainous landscape to the east of the Dead Sea, approximately 90 km south of Amman. The 220 square kilometers reserve was created in 1987 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. Several endangered species of fauna inhabit this nature reserve as do Ibex, Arabian gazelles, leopards, foxes, wild boar, a variety of fish, and birds. CLICK HERE AL MOUGEB RESERVE
