Energy Investigation Geothermal Energy (1) Rocks in mantle heat up the underground water. This super-heated water is sometimes be used to produce electricity. The energy produced in this way is called Geothermal energy. NextBack
5
Energy Investigation Geothermal Energy (2) Geothermal energy contributes only a little amount of energy supply to world. But it is widely used in countries where active vulcanicity occurs, for example New Zealand and Mexico. Geothermal energy can be used to generate electricity in geothermal power plants or for energy saving non- electrical purposes. NextBack Content
6
Energy Investigation Geothermal Energy (3) Advantages --clean --little pollution only --reliable --abundant supply --easy to use --only small pieces of land are required NextBack Content
7
Energy Investigation Solar Energy (1) Solar Energy is the energy from the sun. It is usually in the form of heat and light energy. The Solar panel receives the solar energy and can turn water to steam to generate electricity. NextBack Content
8
Energy Investigation Solar Energy (2) Solar energy is commonly used in some developed countries, such as USA. A good example is shown inside the Hong Kong Bank Headquarter. Sunlight is directly used for lighting inside the building. NextBack Content
9
Energy Investigation Solar Energy (3) Advantages --solar panels are cheap and easy to erect --little pollution --clean --inexhaustible --easy to get NextBack Content

Global Trend in Consumption of Fuel (1) Let’s see the global trend in fuel consumption in the past years. The previous diagram show that our demand of energy is increasing rapidly. Back Content Next
11
Global Trend in Consumption of Fuel (2) Let’s see the consumption of fossil fuel. Petroleum ( oil ) is a main source of energy. However, it is limited on earth, and will be exhausted on one day in the near future. Facing the energy crisis, although the scientists have discovered some new sources of energy, actions on saving energy are very important. NextBack Content

Global Trend in Fuel Reserve (1) Oil Reserves Natural Gas Reserves NextBack Content
13
Global Trend in Fuel Reserve (2) Estimated remaining lives of fuels: Coal: 100 yrs Oil: 25 yrs Natural Gas: 25 yrs Coal Reserve NextBack Content

Energy Conservation (1) Importance --Energy is limited in the world --As population grows, the demand of energy will increase --Fossil fuel causes pollution problems --Some kinds of energy, for example, nuclear energy, is quite dangerous We must find some more kinds of clean energy; Start doing actions on conservation of energy NextBack Content
16
Energy Conservation (2) Method --Reduce consuming of oil and electricity --Turn off the light when you leave --Develop alternative renewable energy resources, such as geothermal energy --Use the energy resources efficiently --Use the energy-saving electrical appliances NextBack Content
