Circles Gone Wild! By Carley, Katy, and Lexi
2
Two Dimensional Circles A circle is a closed plane figure with all of its points the same distance from the center point A diameter is a line segment passes through the center point of the circle with both endpoints on the circle A radius is a line segment with one endpoint on the circle and the other endpoint on the center point The formula to find the area of a circle is π × radius² The formula for circumference of a circle is π × diameter
3
Three Dimensional Circles A sphere is a three dimension circle The circumference goes around the center of a sphere The formula to find the volume of a sphere is 4π³/3 The formula to find the surface area is 4πr³
4
Geometric Definitions Chord - The line that goes from one side to another a diameter is also a chord Arc – A portion of a circle Pie Graph – A graph that is shaped like a circle that is split into parts showing a percent of something Semi Circle – An arc that is half of a circle
5
Pi Pi is rounded to 3.14 or 22/7 Pi is used to find the area and circumference of a circle Pi lasts forever with infinite digits
6
More Shapes A cylinder has bases that are circles A cone has one base that is a circle These are both three dimensional figures
7
Comprehension ???s How do you find the volume of a cylinder? What is diameter? What is Pi as a fraction? Is diameter considered a chord? If the Earth cracked in half, would it be a semi circle?
