The Battle For The Gospel! 2 Tim. 2:16-19 “… born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” – 1 Peter 1:23. “The seed is the Word of God.” - Luke 8:11b.

False Teachers – Avoid Them! They engage in profane and vain babblings – vs 16 False teachers are people that claim to profess the “same precious Faith” Yet, they secretly introduce false teaching, teachings which are destructive to themselves and to all who follow them. Teachings and lifestyles that denial the POWER of God, professing a form of godliness but has no power. A typical example in verse 17 of our text, Hymenaeus and Philatus, of which Hymenaeus was previously in 1 Tim. 1:20, delivered unto Satan by Apostle Paul.
3
False Teaching “And their message will spread like cancer.…” - vs 17. Their means of attacking us is by giving us information that contradict the command of God but appears much appealing to our ears, eyes and the flesh. This is an ancient strategy of the devil to fight the Word of God in us. He tried it on Adam and Eve and succeeds! In Gen 3:1-6, the devil appears before Eve and distorted or lied to Eve, something contrary to what God has told them.
4
The Dangers of False Teachers They increase more ungodly people – verse 16 They increase more ungodly doctrine – verse 17, spreading through the Church. They overturn the faith of others – verse 18

Our Comfort and Caution! The Foundation of the Lord has twofold inscription on it… verse 19. A statement of COMFORT: "THE LORD KNOWS THOSE WHO ARE HIS“ - This COMFORT is available to the both: The Elect - Titus 1:1; Romans 8:33. The Sanctified - John 6:37; 2 Th. 2:13-14.
6
Our Comfort and Caution! A statement of CAUTION: "LET EVERYONE WHO NAMES THE NAME OF CHRIST DEPART FROM INIQUITY.“ No matter our state, the SEAL requires of us to fulfill the duty of departing from iniquity: From the iniquity in our own lives – 2 Co 7:1; Col. 3:5-8. From the company of those who are in continue iniquity – 2 Th. 3:6,14. From those who teach contrary to the GOSPEL – 1 Tim. 6:5; 2 Tim. 3:1-5.
7
Conclusion We are not left comfortless! We have the comfort of God with His seal – knowing those who are His! Right within you and I today, we know where we stand before the Lord! Should the Lord come today and now, where will be our stand before Him? Then here is what the Lord SEAL says to us! Depart from iniquity! Ran away from that SIN! Ran from that relationship, that transaction leading you to evil! Come to Jesus Just as you are….
