Turn to Jesus Jesus’ opening message Repent and believe! (Mark 1.15) (A) What is sin? 1) God’s incredible goodness. 2) Satan’s deceitful attack. 3) Adam and Eve’s disastrous response. 4) The consequences of their choice. 5) The cover-up. 1Following Jesus: Lesson Two

Sin is: 1) God and going our own way. 2) Trying to our sin with religion or our own good works. That is the ROOT of sin, which gives rise to the fruit of sin – lying, stealing, adultery, jealousy, lust, anger, selfi shness, etc 2Following Jesus: Lesson Two

(B) So what does repent mean? Repenting – changing our minds and turning away from sin – is therefore: 1) Turning from to obedience. 2) Turning from the religion of our own works to in Christ. 3Following Jesus: Lesson Two

(C) Why should a “good” man repent? Now what about you? Was it Jesus’ initiative and love that brought you to repentance or your own? Jesus’ / Mine Have you admitted that you cannot save yourself? Yes / No Have you trusted in Jesus as your Lord and promised to follow Him? Yes / No If you have not yet done so, and you want to, let’s pray together right now 4Following Jesus: Lesson Two

(D) What does believe mean? Jesus is not just saying, “Believe in your minds.” He is saying, “Trust me! Trust that I love you and I know what is best for you. Follow me!” Reading God’s Word Let’s read together from Mark 8.27-38. Let’s rephrase the second question now. First, “Which verse or expression do I like best.” and secondly, “Is there something here that I can apply to my own life?” Ask God to start showing you things in your life that He wants to change. 5Following Jesus: Lesson Two
