MIKVA CHALLENGE Student Election Judge Information Meeting

Qualifications In order to qualify as a student judge: Junior or Senior in good standing Minimum of 3.0 GPA Be a U.S. Citizen Complete a 4 hour training session

What is an Election Judge? Official responsible for the conduct of the election in the precinct polling place. You are responsible for making sure the election is running smoothly and legally. Eyes and ears of the polling place. You are the backbone of the electoral process.

Judge Responsibilities You will work with adult election judges and have the same responsibilities, duties and authority. You must set up the voting equipment at 5am on Election Day Conduct fair and impartial election in the precinct from 6am – 7pm Tabulate vote totals for the precinct after the polls close at 7pm

Your Responsibilities As soon as you receive your precinct letter, you MUST bring it to Ms. Kwan. I will give you your SRA form only after you show my your letter. Any questions, should be directed to Ms. Kwan Arrive at the polling place by 4:45am.

Mandatory Training Attend training on Saturday, September 27 th, 2014. There is a mandatory training by ALL election judges. You must complete it satisfactorily. You will receive your instructional materials including your Judge of Election Handbook, exam and training supplements.

Precinct Precinct is the location where one goes to vote based on where you live. Depending on where you live, Board of Elections will notify you of where your precinct will be. It is possible that you will be very close to home. You will know many of the voters because they are your neighbors.

Important Dates TRAINING DATE: Saturday, September 27, 2014. ELECTION DAY: Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

Election Day Arrive at 4:45am Plan on staying till about 8pm or until everyone is cleared out. Bring plenty of reading material (no newspapers) or homework NO music players (no iPods, mp3 players) Cell phone must be set on SILENT. Dress in layers Bring plenty of drinks and snacks No breaks are provided

Incentives ALL JUDGES WILL RECEIVE: $125 for Election Judge $45 for Training Optional $25 Key Judge $25 Cell Phone Judge

Service Learning Hours Must complete survey immediately after Election Day See Ms. Kwan in the Counseling Office otherwise, you will not receive hours This is the only opportunity where you will earn 15 service learning hours (not project hours)

Application & Homework Both sides of the application must be completed legibly. Homework must accompany your application. To complete homework, go to: www.chicagoelections.com

DEADLINE Priority is given to the first 100 completed applications. All other applications will be accepted but may be on a wait list. Applications due tomorrow: Thursday, September 11, 2014.
