6 The Electorate Date of qualification – 6am on 13 th July 2015 Clergy – Assistant Bishops (+Michael, +Richard) – Diocesan responsibility – Each Archdeacon – Diocesan responsibility – Cathedral clergy – Canterbury Deanery responsibility NOT the Dean – Beneficed clergy – Deanery responsibility – Clergy with PTO who are on Deanery Synod – Deanery responsibility – School Chaplains – Hospital Chaplains

7 The Electorate Clergy excluded – Archbishop, +Trevor and PEV’s – Clergy with PTO not on Deanery Synod – Ordained Members of Religious Communities – University electors (we will be notified later) – The Dean – Full time Armed Forces Chaplains

8 The Electorate Laity includes – Members of House of Laity of Deanery Synod PCC elected Ex-officio (Diocesan Synod reps, General Synod reps continue as ex-officio for this election) Licensed Deaconesses and Lay Workers but not ALMs Laity excludes – Co-opted members (please list separately) – Lay members of a religious community – Licensed Lay Readers unless elected – ALM’s unless elected

9 The Electorate Practicalities – Fill casual vacancies by 6am on the 13 th July – Ensure you inform Victoria of any changes in membership and their details – Please supply e-mail addresses if at all possible – Certify to Diocesan Secretary by 30 th June list of electors and any other changes up to 13 th July by 17th July

10 Candidates Clergy (3 positions available) – Ordained priest or deacon – Not in episcopal orders – A qualified elector – Have a PTO – Archdeacons but only 1 elected PLEASE DO ENCOURAGE CLERGY TO STAND

11 Candidates Laity (3 positions available) – Must be lay – Actual communicant – At least 18 years old – On electoral roll of a parish or cathedral community roll – Cannot work for a National Church Institution – Note they DO NOT have to be a qualified elector! PLEASE DO ENCOURAGE LAITY TO STAND

12 Candidates Candidates cannot be given undue prominence during the election period Take special care if candidates are presenting at Synod meetings or circulating material around Synod members. Must be nominated by valid electors

13 Election Addresses Produced by candidate – On A4 paper May not necessarily state all the candidates views – Job of questions at Hustings Candidate has a right to have addresses circulated (by Presiding Officer). – Data Protection

14 Hustings Thursday 24 th September – Ashford - Clergy Monday 28 th September – Seasalter - Laity Wednesday 30 th September – Seasalter - Clergy Thursday 1 st October – Ashford - Laity Participation by candidates is optional

15 The Election Ballot papers issued 14 th September Closing date 9 th October Count 13 th October Results announced by 15 th October
