2 These are some animals that lived millions of years ago: Horses, crocodiles, whales, elephants, monkeys, apes, great white sharks, saber-tooth tigers, tuataras, turtles, platypus, dolphins, kiwi and alligators!

3 These animals we have chosen to look at a bit more: Horses, whales, elephants, apes and great white sharks.

4 HORSES HORSES LIVED 55 MILLION YEARS AGO.THE FIRST HORSE WAS SMALL FOXED-SIZED AND REALLY UNUSUAL LOOKING.INSTEAD OF ONE HOOF ON EACH LEG,IT HAD FOUR LITTLE TOE LIKE HOOFS ON EACH LEG. IT DIDN’T HAVE A MANE. IT WAS FIRST NAMED HYRACOTHERIUM.

5 ELEPHANTS!!! ELEPHANTS LIVED 55 MILLiONS OF YEARS AGO. THEY WERE PIG SIZED AND THEIR TRUNK WAS SOOO SHORT IT WAS ALOST TRUNK LESS. THE ELEPHANT WAS FIRST NAMED MOERITHERIUM.

6 WHALES!! Whales have been around for 55 million years. The whales body was flexible like a snakes body. Its first name was zeuglodon. They were skinny and long they had small, sharp, pointy teeth, rather than long bristles. Their head was more like a shark’s head.

7 APES!! THEY LIVED 65 MILLION YEARS AGO. THEY WERE SMALL SHREW – LIKE AND VERY HAIRY. THEY WERE FIRST CALLED AGEYPTOPITHECUS. THEY WERE FIRST FOUND IN SOUTH AMERICA. THEY HAD A SHORT TAIL.

8 SHARKS!!! SHARKS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR 450 MILLION YEARS. THE GREAT WHITE SHARK, 25 MILLION YEARS. THE GREAT WHITE SHARK AS WE KNOW, IS 10 METRES LONG. ITS PREHISTORIC VERSION, THE CARCHAROODON MEGALODON, WAS 20 METRES LONG!!
