Warmups 1. Graph y = -3 2. Graph y = 2x - 4 3. Write an equation in standard form: (2,-2) (1,4) 4. Parallel, Perpendicular or neither?
2
Perpendicular Lines Objective: To write an equation of a line perpendicular to another
3
Perpendicular Lines How will yesterday change if we want the lines to be perpendicular?? The slope will be opposite sign & reciprocal!!!! Write an equation in slope-intercept form that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the given line. Example 1:(0,4)
4
Example 2 Write an equation in SLOPE-INTERCEPT form that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the given line. y = 2x - 5 (6,4)
5
Example 3 Write an equation in SLOPE-INTERCEPT form that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the given line. 2x – 3y = 9(0,2)
6
TOO 1. 5x + 4y = 8(10,5) 2. y = 1/4x – 4(-2,3) 3. 14x + 2y = 4 (6,4)
