4. Signed into life… The Continental Congress approved and signed the resolution calling for two battalions of Marines to fight for United State’s independence.

5. Samuel Nicholas Samuel Nicholas was then appointed the first Commandant of the Marine Corps.

6. The First Mission In 1776, the Marines conducted their first amphibious raid against Fort Nassau in the Bahamas. Successfully capturing large quantities of gunpowder the British were using for battle against the 13 Colonies.

7. The battles continue… Since its founding, the Marines have taken part in numerous significant battles, ensuring independence for the United States.
