City Manager’s Office 2 Background Since 1960s, “Americans Supporting Americans” has facilitated “adoptions” of military units by cities & counties across USA Provides morale support for America’s men and women in uniform in all branches of the military Builds stronger community bonds

City Manager’s Office 3 Background Pasadena is home to USMC’s 2 nd Battalion, 23 rd Marine Regiment, 4 th Marine Division Infantry Reserve Unit Provides trained combat personnel to augment and reinforce active units in time of war and national emergency Leases property from the City at 2699 Paloma Street Lease term March 1999 to February 2029 w/ two, 10-year optional renewals - Rent is $1 in consideration of community services provided by Marine Reserve Center The “2/23” has a long, proud history of participating in Civic events and cooperation with City

City Manager’s Office 6 Background Adopting the “2/23” will: Recognize existing special relationship between the City and our “Pasadena Marines” Have no fiscal impact on the City Further promote cooperation and collaboration between the City and the U.S. Marine Corps Disaster Planning & Response Community Support & Special Events Support members of the armed services
