RENEWABLE AND NONRENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY
2
ENERGY CRISIS We have a very limited reserves of the energy sources like coal, wood, oil, natural gas. We are using mainly these resources for our energy requirements. If we go on using them at the same rate, we may have to run short of these reserves in no time, resulting in energy crises. It is time that we seek alternative sources of energy on warfooting.
3
NON RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY WWOOD CCOAL NNATURAL GAS PPETROLIUM
4
wood is the chief fuel for cooking and heating. It is also used for construction and industrial purpose. Wood comes from trees. Conservation of forest, the loss of wood, decrease in the rain fall, and an increase in the pollution problems.
5
Coal,is a fossil fuel formed out of living matter. Vast shallow swamps got buried about three hundred millions years ago and got converted in to coal deposits. Coal consists largely of atoms of carbon hydrogen and oxygen. Coal types are peat, lignite, bituminous coal and anthracite. Burning coal creates serious air pollution.
6
PETROLEUM Petroleum is fossil fuel. It supplies about 45% of the worlds energy requirements. Petroleum is a mixture of chemicals.Petrolium is refined to yield lubricants and high energy fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels. Petroleum creates environmental pollution.
7
NATURAL GAS Natural gas is fossil fuel. It is mixture of gases that mainly contains methane. It is grate advantage is that it can be used directly for heating in homes and factories and can be supplied through pipes. It is rich source of Hydrogen gas which is needed in the manufacture of fertilizers.
8
RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY 1) SOLAR ENERGY 2) WATER POWER 3) BIOGAS 4) WIND ENERGY
9
SOLAR ENERGY It can be replenished. It is Most direct and abondent source of energy. It powers the flow of wind and water cycles on earth surface. Without sunlight the earth would be a cold and dead planet.
10
WATER POWER Running water is a source of renewable energy. This is freely available and does not pollute the environment Water stored in dams is used to generate electricity This energy meet only 6% of worlds energy requirements.
11
WIND ENERGY Wind is the motion of air. It is caused by the differences in temperature and pressure in adjacent Locations. Wind mills extracts their kinetic energy, and convert it into useful electric energy. This is a pollution free.
12
BIO GAS The material contained in the bodies of plants and animals is called biomass. When organisms die, their biomass can be used as fuel. Animals and plants wastage are easily degraded by an aerobic microorganisms in the presence of water, producing gases are called biogas. Bio gas containing 65% of methane which is an excellent fuel.
