2 Truth in Advertising Advertisers will mix fact and opinion in their ad to confuse their audience What are some examples of fact and opinion in your advertisements? How can you tell the difference? Which is more persuasive, fact or opinion?

3 Warm-Up November 9 Copy the question and then answer! Who judges the effectiveness of persuasion in advertising? Is persuasion in advertising and debate any different?

4 Warm-Up November 10 Copy the question and then answer! Do you think there is truth in advertising? Do you think truth is more or less effective than straight opinion? Why?

5 Pathos Pathos is an appeal to emotion Advertisements use pathos to attempt to evoke an emotional response from the consumer. The emotion can be positive or negative.

13 Let’s Practice Watch each commercial for evidence of pathos, logos and ethos Fill out your graphic organizer with your observed detail
