16 Argument O Define: an exchange or exploration of divergent viewpoints; a well thought out set of reasons in discussion of an issue and often aimed at persuasion. O Often ideas are explored via argumentation. Sometimes ideas are overturned, expanded, or reaffirmed through argumentation.

17 For your consideration O For nearly 2000 years (as late as 1920), “bloodletting” was considered the best treatment for a variety of illnesses. O The CLAIM that bloodletting was beneficial to human health was not widely discussed or evaluated until into the 1800’s. O Because people questioned this claim: sought REASONS and EVIDENCE to explore it O We now accept a different CLAIM.
