Origin of Faith Who- Muhammad was the founder What- Islamic religion is the belief in one all powerful, and compassionate God. When- 622 A.D. Where- Mecca, Arabia Why- The angel of Gabriel came to Muhammad in a vision while he was praying and told him to proclaim the name of God.

Holy Books The Quran is the Holy Book of the Islamic religion. It doesn’t teach about God but it’s a guide through life. The Quran emphasizes honesty, generosity, and social justice as well as set harsh penalties for crimes.

Organization of Religious Leaders Caliph: successor of Muhammad Mullah: a Muslim man educated in Islamic theology and sacred law. Ayatollah: a high-ranking Shiite worthy of imitation in religious law and interpretation Imam: a caliph that is the lawful temporal leader of the community
