A regional shopping centre provides different shopping services for example clothes shops, cinema and restaurants. They can provide more services than small district shopping centres and are more convenient than city centres. There are usually one or two large department stores like Marks and Spencers which the shopping centre is built around named an anchor store. Cribbs Causeway is an example of this. The location of Regional Shopping Centres are usually very close to a junction because they are easier to access. They are also usually just outside the city centre. There are many Regional Shopping Centres in the UK. Here are some of them: Cribbs Causeway in Bristol Festival Place in Basingstoke, Hampshire Trafford Centre in Manchester Metrocentre in Gateshead near Newcastle-upon-Tyne Cribbs Causeway was built on a greenfield site which means it was built on a total of 5 farms. Cribbs Causeway consists of the Venue, the mall and two anchor stores. The venue has a cinema and restaurants. The mall consists of shops and cafés.

Regional Shopping Centres first appeared during the 1950s in America. One of the first shopping malls in America was the Northgate Mall, built in north Seattle in 1950. In Britain the first Regional Shopping centre appeared in 1986 which was in Gateshead. The planning for Cribbs Causeway started in the 1980s. Cribbs Causeway opened in 1998. People stop going to the city centres Makes it harder for small businesses to flourish Causes unemployment especially in the city centres Creates a lot of traffic on the motorways and junctions especially at Bank Holidays. Towns and cities have to be redeveloped to make them more welcoming and to invite more trade

Cribbs Causeway is visited by 14 million visitors a year. Here are a few points on how people are affected by Regional Shopping Centres: Teenagers would really enjoy the facilities for example the cinema and all the shops the only problem would be that teenagers would find it hard to get to Cribbs Causeway if they lived in Wales and would have to rely on their parents taking them. Anyone that shops in a regional shopping centre would find the shopping environment very clean, modern and safe because of certain policies like no hoodies and no smoking. Small businesses would be affected because people would be more likely to shop at Regional Shopping Centres. This would lead to city centres becoming less pleasant places to shop around and small businesses would have to find other work which could lead to unemployment. People who lived near Cribbs Causeway would have to cope with the increase of traffic.

In my opinion Regional Shopping Centres have been a positive affect on Britain as they contain shops which contain lots of different items like clothes, electrical items and department stores. They are very pleasant places to look around as they are clean and very modern. They also have many café and restaurants. Cribbs Causeway has many interesting things to do like in the Venue for example watching a film. They are perfect for a day out. But I also think it is also a positive affect that the Government stopped planning permission of Regional Shopping Centres because it gives more opportunities for small businesses to have a chance. If Regional Shopping Centres continued to be placed all over the country there wouldnt be any chance for small businesses to be able to have a business. As people would shop in Regional Shopping Centres because everything they need would be there.
