Knock on effects on Italy and France. Governments feared opening flood gates in Tunisians admitted. Tunisians spoke French so would move to France. To find work. Governments worried about losing votes if soft on immigration. EU scale arguments Environmental impacts – migrants had not got enough toilet facilities. Left waste and litter. Cut down wood for fires to keep warm. Economic – 60% drop in tourism in summer season 2011. Tourism and fishing are the main parts of the islands economy.
