Chapter 15 Jesus’ Kingdom of Justice and Truth

We are of infinite value and dignity: because we are created in God’s image. Christ died for the love of us God’s vision for us to to live with him “happily ever after.”

We were free to choose to belong to God’s kingdom or not.

We can walk in the way of justice Loving tenderly as members of the kingdom of peace

or Set ourselves outside of the kingdom by living selfishly in dishonesty and deceit.

7 th, 8 th and 10 th commandments Guide us to show love and respect for others by living in truth and justice. They forbid; Stealing Cheating Lying Envy Greed

Real love and honest respect help us to walk in another’s shoes. What does this mean? “Take a walk in my shoes before you judge me.”

Human dignity and human rights means that we will work to aid those all around the world to gain these God given rights. We seek conditions so all people are treated justly.

People are more important than things. Human dignity is valued over material goods.

Envy - Feeling deprived or sad over another’s belongings, talents or success Unhealthy competition makes you find fault with others and put them down

Greed Desire to possess and control things People want more than their neighbor and are willing to get it unfairly People do not take care of another’s property Resitution- payment for damaging someone’s property

Social sins When a person or group of people are deprived of food, clothing, shelter or security there is injustice. We are called to change unjust systems and organizations

Power of words Truth builds Gossip – damages another’s good name. “Consider how small fire can set a huge forest ablaze. The tongue is also a fire.” James 3:5-6

Lying People lie out of fear People lie to impress others.

Promises and confidences Being true to your word But – if you have information about someone who may harm themselves or others, you need to go to a legitimate authority to report it.

“What does love look like? It has feet to go to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of others.”
