4. TODAY:  52,271 jobs and $4.08 billion in annual income  $23.6 billion in business sales  $365 million in sales taxes; $386 million in property taxes  Kern County’s petroleum industry contributes 20% of the county’s GDP

5.  15.4 billion barrels of oil trapped in the pores of shale rocks in the San Joaquin Valley  1750 square mile area represents 2/3rds of U.S. shale resources

6. If the San Joaquin Valley Can Unlock the Monterey Shale Reserves in the Future:  Up to 195,000 new jobs  $22 billion in personal income gains  $6.7 billion in additional revenue for state and local governments, giving Boards of Supervisors opportunity to provide enhanced services to public

7.  SB 4 (2013) enacted strictest regulations in nation: o Statewide CEQA review o Independent scientific study o New permitting process o Neighbor notifications o Disclosures o Well integrity testing before & after o Groundwater monitoring  Policymakers can ensure local land use policies allow for responsible energy development  Draw from SB 4 information for updates to general plans
