2 WHY DO WE HAVE A SORM? -Navy units are called upon to implement various peacetime/wartime policies of the Nation. -Navy units and their Sailors must be capable of performing a variety of missions, both effectively and efficiently within operational environments. -The evolution of Navy missions and the threat to Naval units make it imperative that Sailors be able to interpret command objectives and execute actions. -Sailors are called to perform rapidly, efficiently, effectively, and most of all, safely.

3 WHY DO WE HAVE A SORM? (CONT.) Experience has taught us that operational readiness is a matter of internal development. Morale, training, and maintenance of materials are essential for optimum readiness.

5 STANDARD As Sailors, we are trained of the high standards from the moment we arrive at boot camp. Standards are meant to remind us of the valued tradition of our Navy that has spanned for the past 232 years. We must have high standards, and we must expect those standards from our subordinates.

6 ORGANIZATION We hear the saying, “Work smarter, not harder” frequently. Organization allows each Sailor within the unit, and the unit itself to be more effective. Sailors will perform more positively if they have organization. Organization is the foundation for a unit’s success.

7 REGULATIONS The SORM outlines regulations for various members, workcenters, and completion of tasks throughout the Navy. Regulations help to maintain good order and discipline within the unit. Without regulations, there is no basis to hold Sailors accountable for misconduct.
