Benefits to learnersBenefits to teachers Widening participation – research shows hard-to- reach learners are attracted into learning by ICT Enhancing achievement – E-learning is affirmative of learners’ own ICT skills and adult status, and includes Skills for life learners in opportunities common to other adult learners Increasing learner autonomy and learning independence – learners can work at their own pace, in their own time and with as much repetition as they want Improving the quality of teaching and learning in Skills for life provision. E-learning is a stimulus to change and develop Staff need to be confident in their own skills to keep abreast of professional good practice - Skills for life developments are increasingly ICT based: On-line National Tests, web-based teaching materials, email dissemination of information, e- learning teacher training materials, web-based consultation documents and discussion

Benefits to learnersBenefits to teachers Can be used as a tool for learning specific skills e.g. use of spellchecker to practise word recognition or cut and paste to develop editing skills, use of targeted e-learning materials Can be a labour-saving vehicle for presenting work and demonstrating skills e.g. word- processing rather than handwriting or presenting graphs via spreadsheets Can be used individually, in pairs or with groups of learners, both real and virtual Access to information and resources Peer support and pooling of ideas Speed and convenience in record-keeping and planning
