Inclined Plane Decreases Input force!!! A flat, sloped surface.
Allows you to exert your input force over a longer distance. Decreases Input force!!! Ex: Ramp
2
Wedge Decreases Input force!!!
An inclined plane that moves (thick at one end and thin at the other). Allows you to exert your input force over a longer distance. Decreases Input force!!! Ex: Ax; zipper
3
Screw Decreases Input force!!!
An inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. Allows you to exert your input force over a longer distance. Decreases Input force!!! Ex: screws, jar lids

Levers A rigid bar that is free to pivot, or rotate, on a fixed point.
Fulcrum – Fixed point the lever pivots around. 1st class lever – Increases force and changes direction Ex: Seesaw, pliers 2nd class lever – Increases force Ex: wheelbarrow 3rd class lever – Increases distance Ex: Hockey stick, baseball bat
5
Wheel and Axle Two circular objects (wheel) that rotate around a common axis (axle). If force is applied to the wheel – Increases force Ex: Screwdriver If force is applied to the axle – Increases distance Ex: Axle on a car
6
Pulley A grooved wheel with a rope or cable wrapped around it.
Different types: Fixed pulley: Changes direction Movable pulley: decreases input force Block and tackle: (fixed and movable pulley put together) greatly decreases input force Ex: Flagpole; crane
