2
John Gordon - PMB- n° 2 Outline u Summary of EDG TB1 u Summary of site experiences u Rollout of Grid in the UK n as proposed by GridPP Technical Board
3
John Gordon - PMB- n° 3 Summary of EDG TB1 u Doesnt really work yet n so youre not missing out. u Version 1.1.0 just out u version 1.1.1 will released outside CERN on Wed20th u Composition of testbed will be frozen Friday 22nd u EU demo will be CC-IN2P3, CERN, CNAF, NIKHEF, RAL n until 4th March u Important that UK makes this cut for EU demo u After 4th March, get as many UK sites into testbed1 as we can
4
John Gordon - PMB- n° 4 Summary of site experiences u some sites have tried Globus u Some have tried EDG u Some have had success with some components u obviously keen people in the community
5
John Gordon - PMB- n° 5 Rollout of Grid in the UK u Endpoint is to have all GridPP and associated sites participating in a series of overlapping grids. u But need to achieve this by a number of steps u 1 rollout EDG Testbed to as many sites as possible n not necessarily everyone, everywhere u 2 implement infrastructure for US experiments u 3 allow access to other resources u The rollout covers first and subsequent installations
6
John Gordon - PMB- n° 6 3 Categories of Site 1 Core 2 Friendly tester 3 User-only
7
John Gordon - PMB- n° 7 Core u At the sharp end u Based on sites with WP6 effort u Take new releases, test and make them foolproof, well documented u feedback to WP6 to improve the distributions and documentation u not exclusive list, commitment to help others
8
John Gordon - PMB- n° 8 Friendly testers u Less formal commitment than core sites u Wish to have latest software but probably not as painlessly as cat 3 u Core sites will test their procedures and documentation on these sites
9
John Gordon - PMB- n° 9 User sites u They will join and use the testbed as a production service. u They dont have the effort to be part of the development but need the grid for their users. u They should see the grid as a service, including the installation and updates u Includes sites that are not part of GridPP but we want to use their resources (eg eScience Centres) u This category is the target of TB work and this plan.
10
John Gordon - PMB- n° 10 Sites can be in multiple categories u e.g. Manchester may be a core site u but their BaBar facility might be a friendly site u while their D0 cluster could be a user site
11
John Gordon - PMB- n° 11 Support of Friendly Sites u mailing list to share expertise u expect problems u debug documentation
12
John Gordon - PMB- n° 12 Support of User Sites The aim is u single point of contact u good documentation in one place u wider pool of expertise
13
John Gordon - PMB- n° 13 Issues u When will we be ready to start? n EDG TB1.1 will show n core sites March 4th u Keeping up with EDG releases u What do we need for our Grids?
14
John Gordon - PMB- n° 14 What do we need for our Grids? u Information Servers -RAL u Resource Brokers – IC u GridPP Virtual Organisation – LDAP server u Authorisation u Example (BaBar)
15
John Gordon - PMB- n° 15 Tasks u One-stop instructions u Based on WP6 plus improvement and UK-specific u Vetting procedure u GSC u Validation tests u Match experiments and sites
16
John Gordon - PMB- n° 16 Testbed Rollout u Rollout core testbed round core of WP6 people and sites n Bristol, Imperial, Manchester, RAL, +?? u Other sites can join core, but price is they provide support to others n WP6 people are paid to do this anyway u This core of people will have different skills and cover different areas but will cover for each other to provide best effort support for n new sites joining n new releases of grid software
17
John Gordon - PMB- n° 17 Other Issues u Extra core sites? u Also involve UK WP contacts (Glasgow/WP2, Liverpool/WP4?) u Support u Rollout procedure u Development grids (see paper) u WP6 role u UK added value u Single set of instructions u Single point of contact u UK management u Verification – joining the grid u EDG, UK Grids
