6 THE LAND DURING TRIASSIC PERIOD
Planet Earth looked very different at the beginning of the Triassic Period. There was just one landmass, a huge continent known as Pangaea. It stretched from pole to pole and included a vast desert at its center. There was no grass, although ferns and mosses provided ground-cover in less arid areas.

7 TRIASSIC WEATHER & ATMOSPHERE
Be sure to pack for hot and dry weather in most areas, seasonal rainfall (bring umbrella), as well as moist and mild temperatures near the polar regions . Did you know… At the end of the Triassic Period, the climate conditions of the Earth were going through some radical changes. The carbon dioxide (CO2) content in the atmosphere was at it’s highest ever levels (10 times those of present day).

8 TRIASSIC PERIOD MORE INTERESTING FACTS
LARGEST extinction known – 95% of all species and 60% of the plant life died out. Other animals: crocodile-like terrestrial predators; beaked herbivores; flying reptiles (pterosaurs); proto-mammals; insects; marine life. The Triassic Period was named in 1834 by the German geologist, Friedrich August Von Alberti. It got its name because this period of geologic time is represented by a 3-part division of rock types in Germany. One of the oddest creatures that shared the planet during this period was Placerias. It must have looked like a cross between a hog, a cow and a turtle – check it out on the next page.

9 PLACERIAS And last, but not least…

10 Did you know that pangaea formed at the beginning of this period
And Began to break apart at the end of the period?
