Do’s and Don’ts of Web Design By: Andrew Mingo
2
Do: Use font that is easy to read on your background Don’t: Use really wild coloured fonts that are hard to read. Also us a legible font. There is text in the middle
3
Do: Have relevant pictures that actually fit with the theme of your website Don’t: Have random pictures that mean nothing about your topic
4
Do: Have a relevant title to the topic of your website Don’t: Have a title that has nothing to do with your website.
5
Do: Have a useable website. Make sure all of your links and pages work. Don’t: Have website that is hard to navigate. Have working links, have a search engine.
6
Do: Have some glitz (bright colourful things). Don’t: Have to much glitz. To much colour can make a website hard to look at.
7
Do: Have an easy to navigate home page. Make sure everything fits on the page, you shouldn’t have to scroll. Don’t: Have to much on your home page. The more you have the harder it is to navigate. Search engine at top
8
Do: Have a font that can be read my all kinds of people. Don’t: Have a font that is hard to read. Especially the cursive fonts.
9
Do: Keep all of your text boxes and pictures lined up. Don’t: Just place boxes everywhere. You should really think of were your placing something before you place it.
10
Do: If your site has adds, make sure they go with your website. Don’t: Have adds that have no relevance to your theme and never have pop-up adds.
11
Do: Have a description of what your website is about. Don’t: Have paragraphs about your website. Try to keep all of your website’s information on in one paragraph.
12
Do: Update your website often. Don’t: Have out of date information.
13
Do: Have colour but keep it simple. Many web sites use the 60/40/10 rule, which is 60% of a base colour 40% of a secondary colour and 10% of a complimentary colour. This makes for a very clean website. Don’t: Have an overly large amount of colour.
