What is the purpose of the ODT? Examination of organisation performance Identify improvements Priorities for improvements Owned by the organisation Facilitated by a specialist

What will the ODT process be? Specialist will contact you Send you the ODT Agree who should be involved (trustees; staff members; beneficiaries; clients) Facilitate the meeting including agreeing actions/timetable Write up a report / action plan to be owned by the organisation

Ongoing support and advice for grant holders To help you: Embed and share learning Aim for best practice and high quality support for volunteers Ensure maximum benefits from the grants Create longer term gains from involving volunteers

How will the ongoing support work? Linked to the Organisation Diagnostic Tool and ongoing project monitoring Learning development needs and actions identified jointly Menu of training and learning options developed based on ODT outcomes / identified needs

Examples of training re: supporting volunteers Values, ethics Recruitment and marketing Interviewing, matching and Screening Retention Effective supervision Role and task design Handling challenging volunteers Systems, policies, procedures Monitoring Etc.

What are action learning networks? A series of five workshops making up the ‘Developing Volunteering Projects’ programme (approved by the Institute of Leadership and Management [ILM]) 1.Project development 2.Change management 3.Developing working relationships with partners 4.Aligning volunteer contribution (to include recruitment, retention, diversity and enhancing contribution) 5.Sustainability and exit strategies

Action learning networks - benefits To establish projects as robust/fundable initiatives, integrated into wider health & social care field Focus on real issues and help participants develop practical action plans for their own situations Projects identify how to improve the quality and efficiency of service-delivery Projects able to develop a strong case for support for future funders Participants obtain a certificate (and 1 year’s free membership) from the ILM

On-line forum An on-line forum is available so: General areas of good practice can be promoted Project representatives can discuss current issues Projects across England can discuss common themes / areas of interest Key issues arising in the forum feed future workshops
