2. Tsinghua Memory — Digital Initiative on Oral History of Senior Tsinghua Alumni, launched in the late 2006, is dedicated to interviewing those who have experienced the history of Tsinghua University via video recording. About Tsinghua Memory

3. Established in 1911 with part of the “ Boxer Indemnity ” ( 庚子赔款 ) fund, Tsinghua was at first a preparatory school called “ Tsinghua Xuetang ” ( 清华学堂 ) for students who were to be sent by the government to study in the United States. About Tsinghua University

5. Presently, Tsinghua has become a leading comprehensive university with engineering as its focus, while concurrently offering degrees in science, liberal arts, management and law. About Tsinghua University

In September 2006, when we were arranging Professor Huang Wanli ( 黄万里 ) ’ s manuscripts, Ms. Hu Kangjian ( 胡康健 ) and Mr. Tao Zhongyuan ( 陶中源 ) suggested that we collect renowned professors ’ materials of Tsinghua University to become a special collection of Tsinghua University Library. 8. The project was funded by “ Tsinghua University Humanities and Social Sciences Development Foundation ” ( 清华大学人文社科振兴基 金 ) in 2007. Since then, over 20 alumni have been interviewed. Development

9. Considering the age problem, we first selected interviewees over 80 of age. At first, the list was mainly based on the historical materials on Tsinghua University, such as Tsinghua University 90 Years ( 《清 华大学九十年》 ), Annals of Tsinghua University ( 《清华大学志》 ), From Tsinghua Xuetang to Tsinghua University ( 《从清华学堂到清华 大学》 ), etc. Workflow

10. We have three contact persons: Ms. Hu Kangjian, Mr. Tao Zhongyuan, and Mr. Zhang Kecheng ( 张克澄 ), who are Tsinghua alumni descendants. Workflow

11. When the time and place were booked, we search the interviewee ’ s information via the internet, books and journals, refer to relevant historical materials, and then work out the interview outline. Workflow

12. During the interview, the interviewees will first talk about their early years, including their childhood, preliminary education, middle school and high school times, and then the situation in various phases of Tsinghua University, focusing upon their personal experiences, their study, work and life in the campus. 15. The interview results will be imported to computer as lossless AVI and edited with Sony Vegas. As to a specific video, there will be a brief introduction to the alumnus at the beginning and a copyright statement in the end. Post-editing
