Services Provided by CPSO Respond to emergency and non emergency calls Respond to theft and assault Lost and found pick-up location Provide Campus Alerts to phone and email Provide escorts on campus Battery Jumps for your car Control and secure access to buildings Assist students/faculty/staff with a variety of situations Provide referrals to a variety of services both on and off campus

Campus Public Safety vs. Other Police Officers Public Safety Officer does not carry a gun, Campus Police Officer is armed Public Safety Officer protects areas within campus boundaries/buildings owned or controlled by the university Both have the authority to make arrests CPSO provides the majority of police services at Portland State University Campus Public Safety Officers and Campus Police Officers eat fewer doughnuts

Staying Safe at Portland State University Protect all valuables, such as purses, wallets and computers Do not leave valuables or cash in plain view Carry a copy of your passport Do not loan your keys to anyone Do not give anyone your credit/debit card information-EVER When in public places, keep your valuables in your possession—take them with you Do not assume an unfamiliar person is a visitor or student. If it is late at night, walk with a friend, or call for an escort Be aware of your surroundings If you are concerned or scared, call CPSO List an emergency contact in your phone as “I.C.E.” Emergency: 503-725-4404 Non-Emergency: 503-725-4407

Thefts on Campus #1 theft at PSU is laptops NEVER leave your laptop unattended when at the library or in a PSU classroom building—take it with you Write down the Serial Number and MAC address of your laptop and keep it is a safe place FrontDoor laptop software security – http://www/frontdoorsoftware.com/pdx/ Password protect your laptop If your laptop is stolen, immediately report it to CPSO

PSU Alert Notification System Enables the university to contact PSU students and staff in the event of emergency by sending messages via – Cell phone – E-mail – Home phone Sample message: PSUALERT -- FIRE in Cramer Hall. If you are in Cramer Hall, leave immediately. If you are not in Cramer Hall, avoid this area. Blue Light Phones Blue Light Phones located in several places on campus Use only in emergencies to contact CPSO directly and immediately send an officer In non-emergency situations, do not use the blue light phones Use your phone or a campus phone to call CPSO in non- emergency situations
