2 Objectives n Explain the proficiency award system n List and describe the awards available n Describe the paper and computer application forms n Use the computer program to generate a completed application form n Evaluate completed forms

4 What is the Proficiency Award Program about? (HO1) n Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in a specific area n Proficiency Award: A recognition of excellence in the area of occupational or scientific proficiency n Incentive: FFA provides the awards to motivate the student through recognition of accomplishment

5 Eligibility n Current, active FFA member n Applicant may have been out of high school no more than one year n If graduated, applicant must have completed 3 or more years of ag ed, or all the ag at the last school attended n Have maintained records adequate to substantiate the application

6 Types of Proficiency Awards n Entrepreneurship –Personal Ownership –Complete records –Completed at home, at school, or in community n Placement –Normally paid employment –Complete records –Agricultural work setting

20 Lessons Learned, Accuracy (HO7) n Same data may be used repeatedly n Application form must be consistent n Cross-check duplicated data points

21 Lessons Learned, Background (HO8) n Applicant meets eligibility requirements n Applicant provides background information –Complete but concise –Readable –Grammatically correct n Scope is logical given resources available

22 Lessons Learned, Inventory n Inventories are logical n Inventories are accurate and consistent n Inventory values reflect only undepreciated value remaining n Capital additions and repairs are reflected in inventory values n Only student share is reflected n Inventory cannot exceed scope

23 Computer Application (HO9) n Available from National FFA Supply Service n Any number of students can use n All Proficiency Awards on one program n Includes BOTH Proficiency Award and American Degree
