2  Design Statement: Design a charger system for mobile devices that operates from sources other than standard wall or vehicle power.  Develop unique use case with considerations for:  Safety  Economic Viability  Environmental Impact Problem Statement

3  Emergency situation:  Broken down car  Need to call for assistance  Cell phone battery is dead  Everyday use:  Battery dies from normal use through the day  Still want to use it Use Case

4  Primary Evaluation Criteria:  Safety  Ease of use  Total energy collected >=.5 Watts  Size  Time to charge  Aesthetically pleasing Design Process

5  Smartphone case with a battery pack in the bottom.  Both power sources feed into the battery.  Sides made from soft flexible material.  Case can be reproduced to fit different phones. Final Design

6  78 cm 2 solar panel on back (13cm x 6cm)  In State College sunlight: 1cm 2 = 0.0044 Watts / hour  Total Energy provided =.343 Watts / hour  Over the course of a day:.343 watts x 5 hours sunlight = 1.72 watts per day. Solar Component

7  The Piezoelectric effect is the production of electrical charge by applying pressure to a substance.  Energy provided per squeeze (assuming 7.25 psi squeeze) = 1.5µW x 2 P.E plates = 3µW  Requires 150 squeezes to power. Piezoelectric Component
