2 Agenda Overview of the Method Related Literature Process Deliverable Diagram (PDD) Example of the method

3 Overview of the Method  A new method for systemic definition of new product requirements  Developed and distributed in 2006, by the lecturers of the University of Leeds; Dr. Agouridas, Dr. McKay and. Dr de Pennigton, and the vice president of Rolls Royce, Henri Winand.  Based on principles of system engineering.  Facilitates the identification and analysis of the requirements of customers and other stakeholders.  Design of product requirements.  Assisting tool for product development teams.

4 Main activities Perceived Solution Product Requirement Design Requirement Expressed Stakeholder Requirement Stakeholder Requirement Revision of product requirements Analysis of stakeholder requirements Derivation of design requirements Functional Requirement Global Constraint Design Requirement Stakeholder Attribute Mapping Relationship Stakeholder need

5 Related Literature  Two dominant product development models that support system approaches for product planning:  Integrated Product Development (IPD) - Defined by Andreasen and Heijn in 1980. - 4 phases for design requirements stemming from stakeholders analysis.  System Engineering and Integration -Defined by the International Council on Systems Engineering. - Identification, documentation, definition of the stakeholder requirements. - Clear structure, but limited success.  Method evaluation through studies drawn from health sector and fast moving consumer sector.

10 Example: Family Car(1) IDCompound Expressed Stakeholder RequirementIDStakeholder Requirement as single statements ESR10 Big interior and storage capacity.SR2 SR3 1. A car must have a big interior. 2. A car must have a big storage capacity. ESR11 Automatic braking system (ABS) and airbags.SR4 SR5 1. A car must have an automatic braking system. 2. A car must have many airbags. Product: Family Car Customers: Adults who travel, Adults with families Pay attention to: Car space, Safety  Decompose COMPOUND STAKEHOLDER REQUIREMENTS into SINGLE STATEMENTS

11 Example: Family Car (2) IDPerceived SolutionsRestated as ID Stakeholder Requirement PS12Provide 5 seats and enough leg room.  SR2 A car must have a big interior. PS13Provide big storage capacity.  SR3 A car must have a big storage capacity. PS14Provide Anti-lock braking system.  SR8A car must be safe, stable and well- controlled. PS15Provide 4 or more airbags.  SR9A car must have airbags for every passenger.  Restate PERCEIVED SOLUTIONS as STAKEHOLDER REQUIREMENTS

12 Example: Family Car(3) Stakeholder attribute Stakeholder Needs A car must have a big interior. A car must have a big storage capacity. A car must be, stable and well- controlled. A car must be safe. A car must have 5 seats and enough leg room. A * B ** A car must have a big storage capacity. B A A car must have an Anti- lock braking system. A B A car must have airbags for every passenger. A  Mapping STAKEHOLDER ATTRIBUTES and STAKEHOLDER NEEDS *Primary mapping  A **Secondary mapping  B
