Bell Work 1.Start a NEW Unit #2 Bell Work Page! 2.Read both sides of the yellow card at your desk 3.Pick one side to write about how it connects to the topic of bullying –Your response should be 4-6 sentences 4.What do I write? –How it connects to the topic of bullying? –How does the quote make you feel? –What does the quote mean?

Group Work 1.Take out your own piece of paper. 2.Title it Bullying 3.Answer the following question… How could verbal bullying or cyberbullying hurt the victim holistically? Make a list of examples for each one. Goal: Write down at least 3 examples for each one! Bullying Physical Mental Social Emotional Spiritual

What to do if you’re a victim What to do if you’re a bystander You’re in the hall between 2 nd and 3 rd hour and you hear someone yell a mean comment to another student. The “victim” is in your 3 rd hour class. What can you do to be an active bystander? What can you say or do? Write at least 4 responses!

What to do if you’re a victim Remember you’re not alone & it’s not permanent Tell someone –Support group to help self-esteem –Document what’s happening & report to authority figure Get active, avoid being isolated –Join clubs, sports & activities

What to do if you’re a victim Learn verbal self-defense –Standing up without swearing Understand the facts –Most bullies have “inflated egos” and think they are better than other people –Their behavior may be “learned” from their home environment –Bullies may be using bullying as a defense mechanism

What to do if you’re a bystander Refuse to join in Don’t laugh or ignore 3 options: 1.) Stand up/distract the bully Use positive peer pressure with your friends “Come on…is that necessary?” “Knock it off” 2.) Report bullying You can do it anonymously HHS Tip Line: 847-659-INFO Leave a note on a teacher’s desk, e-mail
