Small Groups Small counseling groups have 2-6 students. Not everyone will get to participate.  There’s only one of me and almost 600 students this year! You might want to be in a group if you are experiencing: Divorce or a changing family Have trouble making and keeping friends A death in the family A parent or other loved one uses drugs or is in jail or prison Troubles that make it hard to learn in school

Individual Counseling I see most students in class and small groups. I meet with a few students by themselves. Parents must sign a permission form. We meet about six times. If you still need help after six weeks, I give names of community counselors to your parent.

Rules 1.Be respectful! This means respect to yourself, other people, and things. 2.Be respectful. 3.Be respectful. …Get the idea?

Procedure When I Come to Your Class Keep paying attention to your teacher when I enter the room. Your teacher decides when it’s my turn. Put away other classwork and give me your attention. Write in journals. Turn in library books if needed. Read lesson objectives and begin lesson.

Procedure Journals I choose someone to hand out journals. Students take out a pen or pencil. Start writing as soon as you get your journal. We will take only about 5 minutes to do this.

Procedure Collecting Library Books I choose one or two people to collect books. Place book on the corner of your desk if you need to return it. Helpers quietly take baskets around and collect books from corners of desks. Helpers quickly and quietly take baskets to library and place on library check-in desk. Helpers quickly and quietly return to class.

Procedure Going to the Library Quickly get out books to be renewed or to read if not checking out a book. Quickly and quietly line up when called. We leave when everyone is quiet (level 0). Walk quietly down the right side of the hall. Stop outside library until door is open all the way.

Procedure At the Library Quietly walk in, get a key, and start looking for a book. Students not able to check out books need to bring one from class or home. When your teacher arrives or block time ends, please stay seated or keep checking out your books. Either Mrs. VandenBosch, your teacher, or I will dismiss you. When dismissed to line up, push in your chair and walk to line up at the door. Leave when everyone is quiet (level 0).

Procedure Visiting My Office (Room 13) – Door Open Open door + I’m there = PLEASE COME IN! Open door + I’m talking with someone = come back later or leave a note. Papers, pencil, and mailbox hang outside my door. Open door + I’m NOT there = come back later or leave a note.

Procedure Visiting My Office (Room 13) – Door Closed Door closed = come back later or leave a note. Door closed + we have an appointment for that time = knock and come in. Closed Door + appointment + I’m not there = check at the office; someone should know where I am.

It’s going to be a great year!

How to be a Leader Harrison Huskies are learning to be leaders every day!

How to be a good leader

Leadership Opportunities There are several leadership roles available to students at Harrison. Some are old and many are new! Each one has different duties and qualifications. Read the job postings on the bulletin board. If you see something you would like to do, complete an application and give it to the adult in charge. Remember to get recommendations before turning it in! If you are hired, you will be assigned a time period to do the job. Do your best work and you may get hired again!
