Nora Medrano Edna Paz EPSY 6304-63 Dr. Garcia

Born in Neuchatel Switzerland and died in 1980 in Geneva, Switzerland. Received a PhD from the University of Neuchatel His research in developmental psychology and genetic epistemology had one unique goal; how does knowledge grow? Overview

Elementary teachers in Pre-k – 5 th grade. According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) (1993) “A principle of practice for primary age children is that the curriculum provide many developmentally appropriate materials for children to explore and think about an opportunity for interaction and communication with other children and adults. Similarly, the content of the curriculum must be relevant, engaging, and meaningful to the children themselves. (p.64)

Piaget stated children were the participants of their own developing knowledge Piaget proposed children are born with basic knowledge (schemes) and acquire new schemes throughout their life. Assimilation Accommodation Equilibration

Much of the criticism of Piaget's work is in regards to his research methods. A major source of inspiration for the theory was Piaget's observations of his own three children. In addition to this, the other children in Piaget's small research sample were all from well- educated professionals of high socioeconomic status.

The teachers will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will have chart paper in which they will explain the Stage assigned and give examples of ways they can apply the Stage into the classroom by writing it down or performing a small skit. For example, for Preoperational Stage, a person would be assigned to play the role of the teacher, another the student, and would show how to use blocks for basic addition facts.

Piaget made a revolution with the developmental psychology concentrating all his attention to the mental process and his role with behavior. He made us conscious with the way children and adults think. He has helped educators, parents, and investigators to comprehend the capacity of children in their different stages. School programs have redesigned themselves to fit into these Cognitive Development Stages.
