IDEA The purpose of IDEA is to ensure that all children with disabilities have a free appropriate public education (FAPE) that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them further for education, employment, and independent living. (34 CFR 300.1(a))

IDEA Is based on the individual child’s needs, taking into account the child’s strengths, preferences, and interests;

IDEA - Definition of Transition Services Results-oriented process that focuses on improving the academic and functional achievement of the child’s movement from school to post-school activities, including: Integrated Employment (includes Supported Employment) Independent Living Community Participation Postsecondary Education or Vocational Education

Employment Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Employment outcome means: Retaining full-time or, if appropriate, part-time competitive employment in the integrated labor market; or a vocational outcome in supported employment.

Supported Employment Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Supported Employment means Competitive work in integrated setting... For individuals with the most significant disabilities for whom competitive employment has not traditionally occurred as a result of their significant disability; and who, because of the nature and severity of their disability, need intensive supported employment services for the period in order to perform the work.

Competitive and Integrated Competitive - employment paid at minimum wage or better Integrated – employment in an environment where the primary peers, customers, etc. do not have disabilities Supported Employment is competitive and integrated.
