Romans 3:19 – 20 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

Galatians 3:23 – 24 Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. -Over 600 commandments in all -More than 350 items and actions to abstain from -250 actions on the Jewish to-do list

Psalm 78:56 – 59 “But they put God to the test and rebelled against the Most High; they did not keep his statutes. Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow. They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols. When God heard them, he was furious; he rejected Israel completely.

Saul of Tarsus: (Romans 7:15) “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” Hebrews 11:39 – 40 “These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect”

These ‘laws’ are expounded on by Jesus and the New Testament writers... -“the royal law” (James 2:8) - “the law that gives freedom” (James 1:25; 2:12) - “Jesus’ commands” (1 John 3:24) -God’s commandments are to love him and to love each other (Mark 12:30 – 31)

Galatians 3:16-18 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ. Vs 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. Vs 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

Galatians 3:2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort?

Romans 8:3 – 4 What the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful humanity to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in human flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Hebrews 10:9b – 10 “He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” 2 Timothy 3:16 – 17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that all God’s people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

“The secret is that Grace deactivates our pride. Removing the law from our lives means our self- effort is no longer prodded to control behavior. The law excites human effort. It encourages us to depend on resources outside of Christ. But unconditional acceptance deactivates human effort and allows the Holy Spirit to be all that He wants to be through us.” Andrew Farley (Author of the Naked Gospel)

2 Corinthians 12:9 But [Jesus] said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
