1 Welcome to our coffee morning!

2 Main changes to National Curriculum How we are planning to adopt and adapt the curriculum.

3 New Primary Curriculum from September 2014 But… Next years Y2 and Y6 (present Y1 and Y5) start new curriculum in September 2015.

4 Mathematics Expectations set out year by year. Emphasis on whole class meeting expectations. Some expectations are now more advanced, for example children will be expected to be able to multiply fractions by end of year 6.

5 English Programmes of study are set out for: Year One Year Two Lower Key Stage Two (Y3 and Y4) Upper Key Stage Two (Y5 and Y6) Emphasis on reading for pleasure, grammar, spelling and spoken English.

6 Science Programmes of study for: Key Stage One Lower Key Stage Two Upper Key Stage Two Some new content, for example evolution, solar system. Greater emphasis on practical science and its application.

7 Other subjects… ICT now becomes computing. Design Technology - greater emphasis on application and lead in to engineering. Big and expensive changes in History and Geography!

8 Assessment No national assessment system; New SATS from 2016. We need to have our own system; Ofsted will test rigour of our system; Our system needs to show progress; ‘Below’, ‘Expected’, Exceeding’ milestones.

9 Year A Battles/Conflict Including Trojan wars, Iron age battles, Alfred Great and Viking Wars Roman armies Ancient Benin army as protector – invasion by British. Light and Sound Making Things Go (Y3/4) Or Feel the Force (Y5/6) Local Studies Including impact of Anglo Saxons, Romans and Victorians Local habitats Year B Settlements/Why we live where we do. Including where Romans lived, Stone age peoples, iron age, Ancient Greeks, Benin people Making New Materials (Y5/6)or Science – Shake it (Y3/4) In the News Saving the World States of matter Study of Brazil Health and Fitness (Olympic Year) Year C Beliefs/Cultures/ through the ages. Stone Age/Iron age/ Ancient Greeks /Romans/Anglo Saxons/Vikings/Benin Study of Southampton Science – Full Power Extreme Environments Roots, Shoots, Fruits(Y5/6) Or Let’s Plant it! (Y3/4) Year D Technology through the ages including Stone Age/Iron age/ Ancient Greeks /Romans/Anglo Saxons/Vikings/Benin Physics Earth to Mars Ancient Egypt Growing (animals and humans)
