Providing programs, services, and resources, ICC serves as a catalyst for campuses and communities to improve people’s lives through service-learning and civic engagement initiatives.

…advancing citizenship and service as critical components of Indiana higher education.

Clarification of Terms: At Indiana Campus Compact, we function under the two following terms – Service Engagement & Service-Learning

Service Engagement Service Engagement is any endeavor that brings the community into the campus and the campus into the Community, reciprocally, often addressing a social concern. –It could include service-learning, co-curricular community service, and volunteerism. –It could also include some internships and field experiences. –Ultimately, the sum of these activities leads to a campus that is fully engaged with the community. –Service engagement is also referred to as “civic engagement” by many national organizations. ( Adapted from the definition of “Civic Engagement” provided by National Service-Learning Clearinghouse by Indiana Campus Compact)

Service-Learning Service-learning is a credit-bearing, educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility. - Bringle & Hatcher (1996)
