The wine It’s an alcoholic drink made from grapes Grapes grow in countries around the Mediterranean bacin (on the coasts or on hills) or in countries with a Mild climate The name for the grapes’ tree is “Vite” in Italian, while the vineyard is called “Vigneto”

The first step to make wine is the grape harvest or “Vendemmia” The right period for the grape harvest is between August and November. Grapes are cut from the vite with a knife and put in big nests

2. “Pigiatura” (“The squashing”) Grapes are pressed to make the juice, which is called “mosto” Many years ago grapes were squashed with feet, while today it is used a machine called “torchio”

To make the red wine grapes peels and seeds and are left in the juice to ferment Squashed grapes, with juice and seeds is called must (“Mosto” in Italian) The fermentation, wich is a chemical process that makes the juice alcoholic, takes about 10 days. Sugar of the grapes turns into alcohol

3. The Must is put in the barrel, where a second fermentation starts.

According to the time of the second fermentation, the taste and the alcoholic strenght can change

4. Bottling After the desidered fermentation, wine is put in bottles A little amount of chemical substances are added to the wine before putting in the bottles in order to preserve it.
