Why is the sugar in soda a problem? 10 tsp = 40 grams of sugar Each gram of sugar (carbohydrate) = 4 calories So one soda = 160 calories

Calories are good! You need those calories to provide the energy for all your metabolic functions. But sugar = empty calories: no other nutritional value Unless we are starving we don’t need them

Calories and weight gain 3500 calories = 1 pound 2 sodas per day for a year: 2 x 365 x 160 / 3500 = 33.4 pounds per year just from drinking soda!
