User analysis / Usability testing D2.4 - Usability test - MADIERA Version 1 - M24 D2.5 - Final Usability test report - M36 Workpackage 2 Planning of usability test of Beta version Completed D2.3 Usability Test MADIERA Publisher Beta version Completed D2.4 Usability testing of version 1Planning started The usability testing in the next 6 month period will be concentrated on the new version of the Publisher. Important will also be preparations for usability testing of the planned release of the full MADIERA infrastructure.

Software development, status Workpackage 3 D3.1 Functional Specification and DesignThis general document will be supplied by detailed specifications for the more specific MADIERA-related functionality. Refinement of Nesstar WebviewContinuous process Installation of the latest version of Nesstar Server (3.5) Will be the basic version for version 1 of MADIERA, full release planned for month 29. (april/may) Integration of extended thesaurus on Nesstar ServerThe thesaurus support is continuously integrated in the Beta version. The developers are continuing work on the specification and the logical model. D3.2 Building the first version of the portal: MADIERA prototype Completed D3.3 Beta version of the MADIERA infrastructureAs described above there has been some rescheduling and changes in priorities. Two versions were released spring/summer 2004. D3.3b MADIERA Publisher Beta VersionReleased june 2004 D3.4 MADIERA Version 1.0Planned release moved from M23 to M30

Plans The main goal for the next period is to release a fully functional version 1.0 of the MADIERA infrastructure. As described above this release is planned for M29/30 April/May 2005. There will be carried out further work on the Publisher side. Functionality concerning the thesaurus and the geo-referencing system will be integrated. The more of this functionality that is available in the publisher, the richer the metadata of the published material on the server. D3.4 - MADIERA Version 1.0 - M23 D3.5 - MADIERA Version 1.1 - M36

Functionality specification Workpackage 4 D4.1 Recommendation of an appropriate geo- referencing system for social science resources Completed May 2004 D4.2 Methodology for identification of potential comparable data elements Completed November 2004 D4.3 Naming and identification recommendation Will be developed spring 2005 in connection with development of MADIERA functionality  Naming and identification recommendation for social science data resources will be developed in dialogue with the functionality development process. D4.3 - Naming and identification recommendation – delayed

Multilingual Thesaurus Workpackage 5 D5.1 Guidelines for Thesaurus Construction and Translation Completed Translation of ELSST into FinnishCompleted Translation of ELSST into SwedishCompleted Translation of ELSST into GreekCompleted Translation of ELSST into NorwegianCompleted Translation of ELSST into DanishCompleted Updates on ELSSTRegularly. Updated versions can be downloaded from the internal Web site. Set up of administrative framework by which new concepts can be added Well functioning procedure, with a comment database and a management team D5.2 Report on administrative mechanisms for thesaurus maintenance Completed

Plan The thesaurus work will continue with the addition of the final hierarchies. The multilingual thesaurus will also be employed in the portal during the next period. An important workshop will be arranged by the end of this periode: D5.4 Evaluation workshop D5.3 - Extended multilingual thesauri - M24 D5.4 - Evaluation Workshops - M30 D5.5 - Additional thesaurus hierarchies - M36

Content Provision Workpackage 6 D6.1 Guidelines for content provision and access control Completed D6.2 User guides and training packs for content provision Completed D6.3 - First version of hyper-linked information space demonstrator M23 D6.6 - Hyperlinked Information-Space Demonstrator Version 2 M24

Dissemination activities Workpackage 7 D7.1 Making a plan for dissemination activitiesCompleted Dissemination activities, especially within CESSDA will be stepped up. It is important to reach out to all CESSDA archives with information about the project. The goal is to recruit data providers to increase the amount of data in the MADIERA portal. MADIERA will be presented broadly at the eScience conference in Manchester in June and at the IASSIST conference in Edinburgh in May. D7.3 - Userguides and training packs for adding specific "knowledge products" - M23 D7.2 - On-going dissemination events – planning

Exploitation Workpackage 8 D8.1 - Draft Technological Implementation Plan The focus in this workpackage is to ensure maximum EU value from the project by ensuring that the results are exploited as widely as possible and that the system is used for data publishing beyond the initial social science archive community. D8.2 Workshop for non-archive data providers. D8.3 Final Technological Implementation Plan - M36
