Think of an interesting story about yourself or your work that would make someone remember you and want to know more. 3.Build relationships. Networking is not about handing over your business card and moving on. It’s about asking questions, listening and getting to know people. 4.Never waste a lunch. Always eat with someone, not alone at your desk. Arrange lunch with a colleague you have not seen for a while, or someone you don’t know very well. 5.Give something back. Networking is about sharing and helping each other. Keep your eyes and ears open for gems of intelligence and share them with people you've met who would find them interesting.

It's a much easier way to engage than by barging in with an opinion. 10.Listen. People love to talk about themselves. If you can get people to discuss their experiences and opinions - and listen with sincere interest - you can have a great conversation with someone without having to say much at all.
