Prefix and Suffix Workshop During reading, students often encounter unfamiliar words. By applying prior knowledge about the meaning of prefixes, suffixes and root words, students can often arrive at a reasonable definition for an unfamiliar word…..this enhances your comprehension! Prefix: is one or more syllables that can be added at the beginning of a root word to form a new word Suffix: is added to the end of a word and can change a word from one part of speech to another.
