2 Mon. 8/13 Prefix “ana-“ can mean up, again, anew, & throughout. Analyze means to break up into parts and anagram means a word spelled by mixing up letters of another word.

3 Tues. 8/14 Prefix “anti-“ means against so you have people who are antiwar.

4 8/15 Prefix “auto-“ means self so if you write your autobiography, you are writing about yourself.

5 8/16 Prefix “bene-/ben-“ means good or well; it is a good idea to work at a job with good benefits or to have a benevolent teacher.

6 8/17 Prefix “contra-/contro-/counter-“ means against i.e. contradict (speak against) & counterclockwise (go against the clock).

7 8/20 Prefix “circum-“ means to go around i.e. circumnavigate (go around the globe).

8 8/21 Prefix “dis-“ means apart i.e. disparity.

9 8/22 Prefix “de-“ means away from, down, or the opposite of i.e. detract.

10 8/23 Prefix “dys-“ can mean bad or poor as in dyslexia (poor reading) or dysfunctional (badly functioning).

13 8/28 Prefix “mis-/miso“ can also mean hatred i.e. misogyny is a person who hates women.

14 8/29 Prefix “non-“ means not i.e. nonsense literally means not making sense.

15 8/30 Prefix “retro-“ means backward therefore a retrospective is looking back.

16 8/31 Prefix “sub-/suc-/suf-/sug-/sus-“ all means under or beneath i.e. submarine (under the water) & suspend (hand down/below).

17 9/5 Prefix “trans-“ means across i.e. trans-Atlantic (across the Atlantic).

18 9/6 Prefix “un-“ also means not i.e. uninformed means not informed.

19 9/7 Remember that suffixes often determine a word’s part of speech as well as change the meanings of a word. If you can remember certain suffixes then you will be able to guess what the word means because of the part of speech.

24 9/14 Suffix “-escent” means becoming i.e. obsolescent = becoming obsolete (adj.).

25 9/17 Suffix “-fy” means to make i.e. pacify = to make peaceful (verb).

26 9/18 Suffix “-hood” means a state or condition of i.e. childhood = state of being a child (noun).

27 9/19 Suffix “-ic/-ac” means of or like i.e. angelic = like an angel (adj.).

28 9/20 Suffix “-il/-ile” means having to do with, like, or suitable i.e. docile = suitable for training (adj.).

29 9/21 Suffix “-ion” is the act or condition of something i.e. operation = act of operating (noun).

30 9/24 Suffix “-ious” means having or characterized by something i.e. anxious = characterized by anxiety (adj.).

31 9/25 Suffix “-ish” means like or somewhat i.e. childish = like a child (adj.).

32 9/26 Suffix “-ism” means a belief, practice, or state of being i.e. terrorism = practicing terror (noun).

33 9/27 Suffix “-ist” is always talking about a person who can do something i.e. typist = person who can type (noun).

34 9/28 Suffix “-ity/-ty/-y” is describing a character or state of being i.e. amity = state of friendship & jealousy = state of being jealous (noun).
