If you plan to use A Long Way Gone or Jane Eyre, you will need to bring your own copies of these to class on Monday and Tuesday.

Writing an effective literary analysis - Make sure you have a clearly stated thesis: 1. Include the “word” you have been given 2. Include the pieces of literature you will discuss 3. Give a brief introduction of how it is important Ex: _______, __________, and _________ all how the concept/idea of _________ is important in literature and in life. Ex: The power of ________ is clearly demonstrated in __________, _________, and ________ by the way the characters react under certain circumstances. -Make sure you have 3 quotes (1 per piece of literature you use). These quotes need to be RELEVANT! - Use your short answer response skills! -Make sure you actually analyze the importance of your concept don’t just give a plot summary! - Again, short answer skills!
