4 4 Course Objectives  Designed to introduce students to the scope and practice of professional engineering and the role it plays in today's society.  Emphasis is placed on developing a range of technical, information literacy and report writing skills and innovative thinking to find solutions to social needs within a sustainable framework.  Teamwork and project management skills are also developed, and applied in a group design project. 2. 2. 5 5  Development of information literacy and academic integrity skills have been a component of the subject for a number of years. oInformation Literacy component worth 10% of overall course mark.  With a variety of approaches and assessment tasks supported by library workshops, learning materials delivered via Blackboard, and online discussions. Issues  Information literacy sessions and related assessment task placed emphasis on lower order thinking and information seeking behaviours, rather than information using behaviours.  Assessment task disjointed from other course assessment items.  Need for greater focus on principles related to academic integrity.
