A Lunar Eclipse Is when the Moon is in the Earth’s Shadow All Lunar Eclipses can be seen world-wide There are three kinds: Penumbral: The Moon is in the Earth’s Penumbra, it just gets a little dimmer, still looks Full. Partial: The Moon partially enters the Umbra. Some of the Moon is dark Total: As the Moon enters the umbra more and more is dark. Just when it should disappear it turns red

Why the Totally Eclipsed Moon is Red Light from the Sun is Refracted through the Atmosphere into the Earth’s Shadow On the way scattering leaves only red. Thus when in the Umbra the Moon is lit with Red Light
